Ever since laptop computers and tax software starting becoming popular in the 90’s, I thought it would be fun to make “house calls” during tax season and not be cooped up in an office. Every year at tax time I would remember my “traveling tax service” idea and say to myself, “Someday…”

One evening, during my final year working for a local CPA firm, I happened to glance out my window. From my window, I watched a very elderly lady struggle to squeeze her car into a small parking space. When she got out of the car I could see she had a walking cane, a large purse and an armful of documents. I could see she was walking quite slowly and with great difficulty and I wondered how she would be able to get up the stairs as the building had no elevator.

I got up from my desk, ran downstairs and as I helped her get up the narrow staircase, I held her arm and carried her large bag of paperwork. She then asked me if the partners’ appointments were running on time this year because it was starting to get late and she couldn’t see too well to drive home in the dark.

It was at that moment I decided I was going to stop thinking about my mobile tax preparation service and start doing it!
